Firefi ghters promote safety on foot
CFD presents annual awards
To spread the word about fi re safety and install free smoke detectors, a group of
Chandler fi refi ghters is going door to door throughout a mobile home park at 505
E. Chandler Blvd. on June 20.
The fi refi ghters volunteered at the request of Chandler resident Karla Gomez,
who recently lost her husband and infant daughter in a home fi re. Her tragedy
might have been prevented with a working smoke detector in the home and a fi re
escape plan.
“Karla approached our department for help in educating the public, especially
those in low-income areas, about fi re prevention and safety,” says Chandler Fire
Capt. Jason White.
Employees of the local Telemundo television affi liate volunteered to serve as
translators, since many residents of the mobile home park only speak Spanish.
Telemundo also donated the smoke detectors.
