Highfield Estate
New Zealand
Built in 1987 on the Brookby Ridge in Marlborough, the Highfield winery specialises in making ultra premium wines from
grapes suited to the climate and soils of Marlborough. Limited production, 500 tonnes per annum of just four varieties, and a
quality benchmark to retain, ensures that consistently high qualities are achieved.
Principally a white wine-maker utilising new-world wine-making technology, Highfield has a traditional underground cellar
for natural temperature barrel maturation and special fermentations. A designated area for the maturing of the Cuvee for our
sparkling wine, Elstree, typifies subtle environments created for the specialist wines at Highfield.
Highfield has a small, 5 acre vineyard surrounding the winery and visitor centre. Fifty acres of company vineyard are planned
for planting during the next two years. Grapes from the company vineyards will exceed half the total supply to the winery.
The grape supply is geared toward the viticultural strengths of the region and consequently the company's global market.
Sauvignon Blanc currently constitutes 60% of Highfield’s production then Pinot Noir, Cuvee Brut, Chardonnay and Riesling
complete the portfolio. The vineyard area is spread throughout the region bringing site complexity to the fruit, lowering
climatic risk and contributing a natural structure to the wines.
