Bersan et Fils
Burgundy
St Bris le Vineux lies 5 miles south of Auxerre and to the west of Chablis. The cellars of the Bersan family are built under some
of the original fortifications dating back to the 12th century.
Saint Bris le Vineaux is the largest of the viticultural communes of the Yonne Department. The town of Saint Bris le Vineaux
itself has 1000 inhabitants, while the commune covers 3000ha, of which 450 are under vine.
The town was built in such a way that it could house all its inhabitants underground during the time of a siege. The original
bread oven can still be seen under a staircase in Bersan’s cellar.
As from the 1987 vintage, all the property’s wine will be vinified in the new cellars, and the Bersan family is justly proud of
this enormous investment which is the culmination of a decades planning.
The Bersan family consists of Madame Bersan, a very cheerful Burgundian who "does all the work my sons wont do", her
"hard-working" sons Jean-Louis and Jean-Francois, and their wives.

Gilles Ducroux
Beaujolais
Ducroux has 8ha with around 60,000 vines which produce the Lantignie and 15.000 vines producing the Regnie. The Gamay
vines are planted in granite soils on slopes which are exposed to the south, ensuring plenty of sun but impossible to work with
machinery. The harvest and all other tasks are undertaken by hand. Winemaking is done in the traditional Beaujolais way. The
grapes are hand-picked and left in vats for 6 to 10 days before pressing. A part of the harvest is always pressed with an old
wooden press. This leaves the grapes not entirely crushed and bruised as they are with electric presses, keeping the tannins
more supple. Light and fragrant on the nose with surprising body and elegance on the palate.
