SPEIRS AND MAJORLOOKING RADIANT AGAIN
THE 6TH MAY WAS A GOOD NIGHT FOR EUROPEAN LIGHTING DESIGNERS AS THEY BAGGED
TWELVE OF THE NINETEEN AWARDS. SPEIRS AND MAJOR ASSOCIATES WON THE TOP PRIZE
FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW WITH AN UNDERSTATED SCHEME IN LONDON
UK lighting design practice
Speirs and Major Associates was
awarded the IALD International
Lighting Design Awards’s top
honour,the Radiance Award for
Excellence in Lighting Design,
for the second year running.The
award was given to the designers
in recognition of their lighting of
the lobbyand atrium of the Foster
and Partners-designed office
development –3More London
Riverside, London, UK.
In 2008, Speirs and Major As-
sociates were also winners of the
Radiance Award, for their work
on Barajas International Airport’s
new terminal, Madrid, in collabo-
ration with Rogers, Stirk, Harbour
and Partners.
It turned out to be an exceptional

Limerick Spa, Ireland. Speirs and
Major Associates also picked up
two Awards of Merit and aSpecial
Citation.
The two Awards of Merit were for
the nighttime branding of David
Chipperfield’s BBC Scotland
Headquarters in Glasgow,UK
and the interior illumination of the
Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan, Al Na-
hyan Mosque, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The Special Citation was given
in acknowledgement of their
contribution to the Beijing Capital
International Airport –also a
Foster and Partners project.
