Broken Records
Until The Earth Begins To Part
‘Until The Earth Begins To Part’ is the debut album from hotly tipped
Scottish seven piece Broken Records, and it is a thing of majestic
wide-screen wonder with moments of fragile beauty.
The sheer ambition of their sound has brought comparisons with Arcade
Fire, but to these ears there is more warmth to these songs than those of
their Canadian counterparts. Singer Jamie Sutherland has a glorious
soaring voice, capable of just the right level of emotional bombast to suit
the accompanying bass, violin, mandolin, cello, accordion, trumpet, piano,
ukelele, drums and glockenspiel !
Signed to 4AD ( home to such mercurial talents as TV On The Radio and
The National ) they clearly have a big future ahead of them. Yet charm-
ingly they all pack into the same transit van, pile up in small hotel rooms
and cook for themselves. With a group spirit like that they can only
succeed.
Released on 4AD – June 1st
