As I sit and try to start my next assignment which is almost due and yet again I have left to the last minute I wonder where Director for DUSA, and my focus is the Welfare of
all my good intentions from the start of the trimester have gone. I promised myself I would be more prepared this time around; that I would stick to a plan and keep up to date with all my work. But then reality sets in. Life can just get in the way of any good intention when it comes to keeping your study on track. This is especially true when you have kids.
g My husband’s work always seem to take him away from our home a lot the same week I will need him most and the
children always get sick any week that an assignment is due or an exam is looming. I try not to take it personally, after all its
not like they plan it. But it happens every time. Every trimester of every year I have studied has seen me trying to madly in
complete an assignment while also juggling some kind of mini crisis at home. Is it a sign I shouldn’t be studying with two
kids under 4 to look after? Maybe university should be left to those young enough to cope with all night study sessions? Or r
maybe just a sign that I should really try to keep to the study schedule I draw up at the start of every trimester but by the
end of week two is already being ignored.
p No matter what the reason however I know that a looming deadline is always the first indicator that my husband will need to do lots of overtime at work and that the kids need a doctor, even before I can see a runny nose, hear a cough or see a
work schedule. It happened only two weeks ago when my first assignment was due. And sure enough I wake up today, a
Monday with another assignment due on Thursday and my both my sons wake up with colds and my husband has just let
me know he has to stay back after work for a meeting tonight. I just try to remember the saying that what doesn’t break ff
you only makes you stronger but just once it would be nice to have a deadline without the personal drama attached.
Surely I’m not alone? What can you always guarantee will happen when an assignment is looming? What does life throw at O
