PSY 034 SUICIDE 1 UNIT
Hours: 9 lec; 2 wk course INTERVENTION
Designed for both nonprofessionals and professionals: Intervention and prevention of immediate danger
of suicide. Develops competencies to recognize a person at risk of death by suicide; assesses the degree of
risk; and undertakes appropriate management or referral.

APPROACH
Helping people find solutions to their personal conflicts and emotional problems is what counseling is
all about. Topics include listening and language skills, asking good questions, and solution building. For
anyone interested in a respectful and effective approach for helping others.

An examination of social, cultural, psychological and psychophysiological development of women
incorporating myths, personality theories, and research on gender differences and similarities in behavior.
PSY 135 HUMAN SEXUALITY 3 UNITS

This course presents to the student the biological, psychological and cultural aspects of human sexuality.

PSY 140 BUILDING 3 UNITS

BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN
Introductory course focusing on identifying and overcoming the barriers to effective male/female
relationships. Eight modules will be presented that will take the students through a variety of stages in the
gender role journey. Modules covered will include understanding the male/female cultures; overcoming
the two barriers; logical outcomes of the barriers; conflict management.
PSY 144 PRE-PROFESSIONAL 4 UNITS
Hours: 4 lec CAREER DEVELOPMENT CSU
Developed as part of the school’s AmeriCorps Program, this time-intensive, intern-based class is the skills-
building component of a comprehensive mentor program. Emphasis is on pre-professional training in
the helping professions, which include teaching, social work, counseling, and other related vocations.
Students will learn skills and procedures for career development, family responsibility, civic and community
responsibility, and personal development. Enrolled students will then apply these skills working with
selected students during their lab hours. Repeatable.
PSY 150 PSYCHOLOGY OF 3 UNITS
Hours: 3 lec DISABILITIES CSU
Social and psychological aspects of human disabilities promoting awareness of special needs and services.
Students will participate in assimilation exercises and observe and identify behavioral patterns of disabled
individuals.
