PE 157 SPORTS 3 UNITS
Hours: 1 lec; 6 lab OFFICIATING CSU
This course covers current officiating topics with emphasis on basic concepts of officiating. Sports
addressed include volleyball, basketball, football, baseball, softball, and floor hockey. This course will focus
on the organization and techniques of officiating sports. Comprehensive instruction in rules, officiating
techniques, scoring, and practical lab experience.
PE 158 THEORY OF COACHING 1-2 UNITS
Hours: 1.5 lab, 1.5 lec SOFTBALL CSU
Covers the theories of becoming a softball coach at all levels. Major emphasis is placed on how to organize
a program, teaching the skills of catching, pitching, infield and outfield play. Emphasis is also placed on
drills, practice organization, offensive and defensive strategies.
PE 159 THEORY OF INTERCOLLEGIATE 1 UNIT
Hours: 3 lab MEN’S SOCCER CSU, UC
This course covers all aspects of the theory of women’s soccer, emphasizing the philosophical foundations
and history of the game; sports nutrition; healthy living; perfecting form and technique; and offensive and
defensive strategies. Formerly PE 159 AD. Repeatable.
PE 160 PSYCHOLOGY 3 UNITS
Hours: 3 lec OF COACHING CSU
Designed to examine the various aspects of interpersonal behavior and motivational psychology as it
pertains to coaching athletes, including: philosophy of coaching, motivation, leadership, anxiety and stress,
self-perceptions, aggression, and social influence.
