ECE 039 TEACHING YOGA TO CHILDREN .5 UNIT
Hours: 9 lec, 9 total hours SHORT-TERM
Using traditional yoga postures for children, this hands-on class for adults explores creative and playful ways
to promote healthy physical and emotional development. It addresses self awareness, stress reduction,
self-confidence, strength, flexibility, coordination, concentration and relaxation. Techniques can be applied
to working with individual children of any age or children in group settings. Repeatable.
ECE 040 ADMINISTERING THE 1 UNIT
Hours: 1 lec ENVIRONMENTAL RATING
SCALES
Designed to provide the training necessary to administer and score the Environmental Rating Scales of
Early Childhood Education Programs. Includes development of program improvement plans. Formerly
ECE 097F/ECE 097G. Repeatable.
ECE 051 ADMINISTRATION 3 UNITS
Hours: 3 lec OF PROGRAMS FOR
YOUNG CHILDREN
Designed to provide experience in the procedures of planning and administering programs for young
children. Emphasis on state regulations, selection of staff, budgeting, selection of facility and equipment.
Meets state licensing administration requirement for director. Meets 3 of the 6 unit administration
requirement for the Site Supervisor Permit. Formerly CHDV 051.
ECE 055 SUPERVISION: 3 UNITS
Hours: 3 lec PARENT/STAFF
RELATIONS
Provides information and practice necessary for working effectively within a children’s program in a
supervisory capacity. Emphasis is on parent relations, staff relations, and leadership. Meets state licensing
administration requirement for a director. Meets 3 of the 6 unit administration requirement for the Site
Supervisor Permit. Formerly CHDV055.
ECE 057 INTRODUCTION TO 3 UNITS
Hours: 2 lec, 3 lab ECE PROGRAMS/
FIELD EXPERIENCE I
Designed to give the student an introduction to practical skills in teaching young children. Provides an
overall perspective of early childhood education. Introduces guidance and group management techniques.
Required for AA, Certificate of Achievement in ECE, and Associate Teacher Certificate. Applicable for core
units on the permit matrix and for licensing.
ECE 058 ECE PROGRAMS/ 3-4 UNITS
Hours: 2 lec, 3-6 lab FIELD EXPERIENCE II
Designed to give the student practical experience in teaching young children. Includes using appropriate
guidance techniques, developing curriculum and conducting activities, child assessment, parent relations.
Required for AA and Certificate of Achievement in ECE. Applicable to field experience requirement for the
Permit Matrix. Formerly CHDV & ECE 058. Repeatable.
ECE 059 NUTRITION 2 UNITS
Hours: 2 lec IN INFANCY
& CHILDHOOD
Designed for teachers, caregivers and parents involved in the care and feeding of infants and children.
Includes feeding requirements of state and federal child care programs, and stresses practical application
such as assessing developmental readiness, feeding the challenging child, menu planning, and the
relationship of nutrients to stages of growth and development. Formerly CHDV 052
