CHEM 100 I INTRODUCTORY 4 UNITS

This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts in chemistry, a broad overview to the field, and
moves at a rapid pace. Emphasis is on understanding rather than memorization. This course is useful for
students who have taken high school chemistry previously, but would like to improve their skills before
going on to the general lecture series. Prerequisite: MATH 016.
CHEM 102 GENERAL 4 UNITS
CAN CHEM 2 CHEMISTRY I CSU, UC,
Hours: 3 lec, 3 lab IGETC
This course explains the fundamental principles of atomic structure, nomenclature, chemical equations,
stoichiometry, chemical reactions, gas laws, thermochemistry, quantum theory and chemical bonding.
Prerequisite: MATH 018.
CHEM 104 GENERAL 4 UNITS
CAN CHEM 4 CHEMISTRY II CSU, UC,
Hours: 3 lec, 3 lab IGETC
This course is the sequential general inorganic chemistry course that explains the principles of molecular
geometry, states of matter, solutions, chemical equilibrium, acid and bases, acid-base equilibira, thermo
dynamics, and electrochemistry. Prerequisites: CHEM 100 or CHEM 102, MATH 018.
CHEM 106 INTRODUCTION 4 UNITS

CHEMISTRY IGETC
This course is an introduction course to the fundamental concepts of organic chemistry, which emphasizes
the understanding of how organic chemistry relates to living systems, the environment and current
medical advancements. Specific areas to be covered include hydrocarbons, organic reactions, and aspects
of biological chemistry. Essential for students with an interest in chemistry, biology, medicine, nutrition or
environmental science. Prerequisites: CHEM 102. Advisory: CHEM 104.

COLL 010 BECOMING A 3 UNITS
Hours: 3 lec SUCCESSFUL STUDENT
Provides students with college survival skills and information, including college policies and procedures,
academic and critical thinking skills, school and community resources, communication skills, time
management and organizational skills, and test-taking skills. Specifically designed for those students with
a history of learning difficulties.
COLL 050 PEER ADVISING 1 UNIT
Hours: 1 lec
Prepares students to assist other students with issues and problems many will face. Emphasis on listening
skills, referral to specific resources, and empathetic participation as pre-registration assistants, Workability
assistants, E.O.P.S. Peer Advisors, Peer Tutors, and Peer Counselors. Formerly PSYCH 070. Repeatable.
COLL 060 TUTORING 2 UNITS
Hours: 1 lec, 3 lab TECHNIQUES
Designed to assist those students wishing to tutor through the College’s Tutorial Program. It is intended
to give the student lecture and practical experience in proper tutoring techniques. Prerequisite: Students
must either have successfully completed or be co-enrolled in a course that they wish to tutor AND have the
written approval of the instructor of the course.
