Corletta Andrea Grant-Braithwaite, from the beautiful land of Guyana, South America where her culture is rich in
history and tradition.
As a child, Corletta’s vision as a profession was to work in the beauty and fashion industry. Her educational pursuits
began at the world renowned Wilfred Academy Institute where she graduated with honors. Additionally, she is the
recipient of numerous awards exemplifying hair care excellence, and received achievements from such prestigious
beauty institutes. such as Wilfred Academy, Dudley University for Dudley Products and the Guyana Beautician Net-
work.
Corletta has been blessed as an entrepreneur by utilizing her expertise in the beauty and fashion industry for over
13 years; thereby, bringing her vision to fruition. Corletta believes she is a “talented beauty expert,” a named often
conferred upon her by her many clients. Corletta’s highest honor is in knowing that she exceeds her client’s expecta-
tion while enhancing their outward beauty to match their inner beauty when they leave her salon.

Gypsy Gallardo – The Power Broker Magazine - (727) 866-0873
Gypsy Gallardo is a Harvard graduate with an unyielding passion for the advancement of the African American
community. Her work has included helping the South African Ministry of Trade expand exports to the U.S.; leading
a team campaign to attract new exporters into the U.S. Department of Commerce’s global database and directory;
publishing Florida’s first statewide directory of the micro business industry; and building a pipeline of new com-
mercial development projects in Florida’s blighted communities for Urban Development Solutions.
She is Publisher of ‘The Power Broker Magazine’, which within two years of launch became the most widely circulated
magazine and e-zine targeting Tampa Bay’s black community. Also politically active, Gypsy was Chair of The Power On!
Campaign, which produced an historic black voter turnout in St. Petersburg during Presidential Election 2004. Dur-
ing the 2006 election, she served as Statewide Director of Black Outreach for Jim Davis for Governor through the
Primary when he won the Democratic Nomination. Gypsy is the recipient of numerous awards and has held officer
positions with the Florida NAACP, the Florida Black Owned Media Coalition, and other groups dedicated to black
progress.

Ethel L. Johnson, Publisher of The Weekly Challenger Newspaper is a graduate of Savannah State University who has
earned the reputation as a woman of virtue, vision, value and voice as she continues to lead the publication soon
approaching 42 years. Johnson has had an extensive career in the savings and loans industry as well as 30 years of
combined experience working as a Medical Assistant with Dr. Keith Brady and Dr. Pridgen. Johnson is the widow of
Publisher Cleveland Johnson who founded the paper in 1967 and passed in 2001.
The Weekly Challenger has been the most comprehensive source for gathering, organizing and presenting news
and information to the African-American communities of Tampa Bay. In addition to in-depth research and thorough
reporting of local events, The Challenger offers complete coverage of news from the immediate region, state and
nation. The paper is published on Thursdays and has a strong distribution in Pinellas and surrounding counties that
