so I thought I’d get the summit out of the
way so my morning would be simply a
matter of getting the hell out of dodge.
Visibility nil
The wind had picked up at this point
and the temperature had dropped a fair
bit.Visibility was also dropping as the
cloud gathered but I was maintaining
my position on the broad ridge using a
compass bearing as well as the lightsThe final obstacle.This stile marks the end of the way-marked trail so get your compasses out!

of lights faded more and more as the
mists rolled in.They looked more like
distant ships which finally got lost to the
sea of cloud – that dense grey mist that
seems to cling to you as you walk.The
light of my head torch reflected off it so
my world had been reduced to a tiny
bubble of light in which I was forced to
look at the ground constantly to make
my way.Visibility was literally down to
a couple of feet and the going was slow.
I was actually standing next to the large
summit cairn but only saw it when I
turned around!

callouts have involved people straying
