Blast from the Past
The Communication Arts Faculty, Wine-Price Hall, 1978-79
The current SMAD program evolved over more than three decades, changing names, locations and configurations. From its original home
in Zirkle House across from the Quad in 1977, the program moved to what had been a dorm for nursing students connected by a walkway
to Rockingham Memorial Hospital. CommArts had the lower two floors of Wine-Price while the upper two floors were dorm rooms for
freshman women. The program included concentrations in Theatre, Speech, Radio/TV/Film and Journalism. Later the program moved to
the Anthony-Seeger Campus School from 1983-2000, then to the Modular Building east of I-81, and finally to its current home in the newly
renovated Harrison Hall on the Quad.
