Country superstar Kenny Chesney’s tour continues to break records year after
year, selling out the largest stadiums in the U.S. A key element of Chesney’s
success in the live arena has been consistently high sound quality, thanks to
an all Electro-Voice sound system—the world’s largest touring EV rig—from
Morris Leasing.
Phil Scobee’s 2008 system design includes 112 X-Line and 68 mid-sized
XLC-127+ line-array enclosures, powered by a total of 144 P3000RL ampli-
fiers. All system control is via IRIS-Net. “IRIS-Net has streamlined the setup and
centralized control to an amazing degree,” Scobee says. “We can manage the
whole system from a couple of laptops, fine-tuning it from a remote position in a
stadium if needed, and remote-monitoring the performance of every component.”
The 2008 system design also sees the debut of complete system processing
via NetMax N8000 digital matrix control units with FIR-Drive. “The addition of
NetMax with FIR filters was very exciting—the sound quality is exceptional.
Our partnership with Electro-Voice helps us achieve the best possible
results at this level of touring, upping the ante every year.”
