FARRAH “I WON’T GIVE UP”
After two and a half years of chemotherapy, radiation, and sur-
gery, Farrah Fawcett is opening up about her fight with cancer to
fans in a touching documentary.
Farrah’s Story, which airs May 15 on NBC at 9 p.m., will reveal
the iconic blonde’s battle with anal cancer through a video diary.
"Cancer is my own private war. The strain, the nausea, the fever
take turns challenging my strength, my mind and my spirit. I
won’t surrender. I want to live," she says in the two hour special.
Famous friends such as Melanie Griffith, Antonio Banderas and
Jacqueline Bissett, as well as her long-time love Ryan O’Neal,
gathered for a premiere screening of the heartfelt film at the
Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills on May 13.
"It was hard, extremely hard to watch," Ryan told reporters after
the screening. The actor, who has been dating the Charlie’s Angel
star for over 25 years, spoke candidly about his partner’s ordeal
on NBC’s Today on May 14. “In the last two years, I loved her
more than I’ve ever loved her, ever,” he said. “She’s the rock.
She taught us all how to cope. She is extraordinary, I don’t know
what I will do without her.” He added that the couple’s troubled
son, Redmond, who is currently in jail facing drug possession
charges, hid his shackles when he was briefly allowed to visit his
ailing mother last month. “He is so full of shame for his mistakes.
She forgives him,” Ryan said. Farrah, who was diagnosed with
the disease in September 2006, reportedly stopped treatment
when her illness was revealed to be incurable.
