MEET BO THE FIRST DOG
The new First Dog is "crazy" and a ton of work, but at least the fence at the White
House is good and he's unlikely to run wild any time
soon.

That's the scoop ferreted out by a bunch of children dur-
ing a question-and-answer session Thursday at the White
House with First Lady Michelle Obama -- her "first offi-
cial press conference," as she later put it.

During a "Take Your Child to Work Day" event in the
East Room, Obama took several questions from the chil-
dren of White House and executive office staffers. They
returned repeatedly to the topic of Bo, the family's new
Portuguese water dog, and pinned her down on several
pressing points.

Michelle Obama's popularity soars, topping recent first ladies, survey finds "Oh, he is a
crazy dog," the first lady said. "He loves to chew on people's feet."
The other night about 10 p.m., she said, the family was asleep when suddenly they heard
all kinds of barking and jumping around.

"The president and I came out and we thought somebody was out there. And it was just
Bo. He was playing with his ball."
The 6-month-old dog, unveiled last week after months of speculation, was a gift to
Obama daughters Malia and Sasha.

What if Bo were to run away? That prompted Obama to wonder aloud that she should
make sure his tags are on so someone would return him. But then she remembered that,
just like the POTUS and FLOTUS, the new FIDOTUS lives in an impermeable bubble
in the White House.

"The South Lawn is gated," she said. "So it would be pretty hard for him to get out."
