Pigment
Pigment’s heritage lies in rescuing old images from
moth-ridden archives and rejuvenating them in the form
of greeting cards.
It’s Smile on the inside and Rib-tickler ranges are
nostalgia ranges that combine turn-of the century
images with modern humour captions. Pigment’s new La-Di-Da
range has a mix of designs from the 20s to the 70s all offering their own brand of nostalgia.
“These days we take photos galore, using phones and pocket cameras and the images
are on our computer, or sent to friends within seconds,” says Ian O’Brien of Pigment.
“Originally, glass negatives and darkrooms were required to process images, which
took considerable time. Consequently the mountains of modern images lack the effort
and attention to detail that old photographs possess. This, combined with the styles and
innocence of yesteryear is probably why Retro is so popular.”

Alternative Image
Company
“The Alternative Image Company has always
published nostalgic imagery,” says founder, Ilona
Benjamin. “But what’s been particularly evident in
the past year is its soaring popularity.
“With the current fi nancial uncertainty Retro
cards and the memories they evoke of more carefree times are helping to lift
people’s spirits. People are turning back the clock wanting to recapture what they

The Carte Postale
We love the Fermette range from The Carte Postale,
which was launched two years ago. The designer is
Englishwoman, Lara Allport who is currently resident in
Australia.
Her style brings to mind themes of 30-style packaging
and Arts and Crafts design like Clarice Cliff pottery.
Bucolic, bygone scenes of nature, farming and organic
produce are right on-trend at the moment and fi t the retro
vibe perfectly.
There are 16 designs in the range and TCP claims the
cards are 100% eco-friendly.
