From our President
It is very sad for me to start my article with some the news of DG Les
Lee’s unfortunate illness. This has come at the time of his year when
most of the hard work has been done and he should be looking
forward to the fun and fellowship which goes with the end of his Rotary
year. I know our own IPDG Brian will be an excellent stand-in, but he
and Jill would have much preferred Les to be in good health and
holding the reins. Once again on behalf of the Club I send my good
wishes to both Les and Jeanette.
On the club front once again we have had a very successful Singing
Competition, thank you Richard and team (including the ladies catering
in the background), especially John, who I know had some worrying
moments when the entries did not materialise as quickly as he hoped,
but in the end thirteen entries I believe was a record. Although I was
away and unable to attend, I understand the Technology Tournament
was a huge success and once again our thanks go to the Youth
Opportunities team, who were ably supported by other club members,
I hesitate to single out any one person but I believe without JVP Pete
White’s expertise the competition might flounder as it did in its early
years. We are certainly the leading club in this event, well done
Chiltern.
For the second year running our bowlers have won the District Indoor
tournament, well done, Richard, Mick and Barrie.
I now look forward to the remaining three months of my year, in which
we have the Charity Golf day, Trivia evening and finally President’s
evening, please support and encourage others outside of our club to
support these events.
Finally I would like to congratulate Mark Relf, who we as a club
proposed, on being successful in achieving one of the four places
available on the Group Study Exchange programme to Indiana.
President Geoff
