Luton Chiltern Rotary Club's
Young Singers Competition
Following the success of previous years' events, Luton Chiltern Rotary Club
has again held its Young Singers Competition
Thirteen talented young 13 -18 year olds from Luton schools sang the night
away, thrilling an audience packed into St. Luke's Church, Leagrave. The
event was wholeheartedly supported by the Music Service of Luton Borough
Council whose Head of Singing, Kerry Watson - herself a talented singer,
gave the help, expertise and enthusiasm that ensured success.
The competition was attended by Fraser Collins, a local singing celebrity
who was supporting one of this years contestants. Fraser recently achieved
national fame when his group 'Emperors of Soul', for whom he stars and
writes vocal harmonies, reached the final 6 in the BBC Eurovision Song
Contest show 'Your Country Needs You' as chosen by Andrew Lloyd
Webber and his team.
This year's performances by the entrants were of a very high standard, the
winning singers showing huge promise and talent.
A panel of local judges representing the cream of the Luton Music scene
were unanimous in their choice of Joe Robinson from Luton Sixth Form
College as the top prizewinner. Along with this valuable award, presented by
Rotary President Geoff Bettridge, he won an opportunity to experience a top
London Theatre production.
The two runners-up - Zola Joseph (also a Sixth Form College student) and
Emma Wheeler (from Cardinal Newman School) - as part of their Rotary
awards received an opportunity to see a top Musical at Milton Keynes
Theatre.

Apart from supporting the young, the elderly were not forgotten for, in the
same week at St Luke's Church Hall, local senior citizens were treated to a
highly professional and entertaining charity concert featuring the Woburn
Sands Band arranged and supported by Luton Chiltern Rotary Club.
