the differing methods employed to project a ping pong ball at least three
metres into the air in the form of a VTOL launcher. As in the past every-
one appeared to enjoy themselves, including the teacher teams.
The various winners were presented with their awards by Sir Robin
Biggam who also made a short speech to outline the merits of technolo-
gy for the future of us all. For the benefit of Roy Hawkes in particular, the
results of the various divisions of the Tournament are as follows:
Advanced: Winners: Redborne Runners-up: Vandyke
Intermediate: Winners: St Andrews Runners-up: Redborne
Basic: Winners: Northfields Runners-up: Stopsley B
My thanks on this occasion go to John Halstead {Leighton Linslade} for
his organisational prowess and to Peter White for his technical skill in
producing the model and for being the chief judge on the day.
Luton Chiltern was in the forefront of support for the Tournament and
those who should have a mention in dispatches include Steve Smith,
Peter Bennett, Barrie Blewitt, Bob Barker and Barry Lister. Valerie
Saunders should also be mentioned for eating the majority of the cream
cakes!!! Val Blewitt and Fred White were once again most helpful with
the initial registration of the teams on arrival.
Well done to all those who played their part in making these two events
such great successes.
The Club will recall a presentation from Maggie Dyer regarding the
Young Chef Competition, a little earlier this year. My committee is
considering pursuing this project. More information in due course.
