District 1260 Indoor Bowls Tournament
Our Club represented by Barrie Blewitt, Mick Lord and Richard White
retained the Trophy at the Luton Indoor Bowls Club on 19th March 2009.
Eight teams from Amwell, Bushey & Oxhey, St Albans, Chesham and Luton
competed, each team played four matches of six ends or 50 minutes play
and the two teams with the most points played in the final.
Luton Chiltern started in excellent form, winning there first three games 9-2,
15-1, and 10-1 and drawing their fourth match 8-8 with Amwell “A” team, and
hence finished with the highest score of 7 points.
The other contenders for the final were Amwell
“A” and Bushey & Oxhey who both finished
with 5 points. Bushey & Oxhey made a slow
start to the Tournament, losing their first
match and drawing their second before
warming up to win their third and fourth
matches. They reached the final by having
a better “shot difference” than Amwell “A”.
The final was a very close match and after
six ends the score was 6-6 and hence a
“sudden death” ends were needed. Luton
Chiltern went into top gear in the seventh end and won with a comfortable
four shots to retain the trophy for another year.
Brian Doggrell, immediate past District Governor, presented the trophy and
prizes to Luton Chiltern and the runners-up Bushey & Oxhey.
I would like to thank everybody that contributed to a very successful day,
namely the Luton Indoor Bowls Club for the facilities and some fine food
throughout the day, Pauline Lord for spending the whole day as scorer and
other administration and Brian Doggrell for presenting the prizes.
Thanks to Mick, Richard and Barrie’s consistent bowling we shall be hosting
the tournament in 2010 !
Danny Evans
