Our Thailand Experience
This year we decided to get away from our winter weather for a while
and chose Thailand for our holiday.
We left on Wednesday February 4 the only day that week that
there wasn’t any snow during the worst spell of weather for years. We
were very lucky that the roads were clear and the flight was on time.
After a flight of twelve hours we arrived in Bangkok where we met our
guide and our fellow travellers.
Bangkok is a city of temples, markets and food stalls on every street!
A long tailed boat which travelled at great speed along the canals took
us to a floating market where there was much bargaining to be done.
An evening dinner show was arranged for us, the food was delicious
but the dancers were a bit dubious, who was male and who was
female?
We visited many temples and palaces and saw every kind of Buddha
imaginable.
Bangkok is very crowded, polluted and noisy but certainly interesting.
After our stay in the capital we headed north for a very different rural
Thailand and ten very hectic days of touring with very early morning
calls.
Our first stop was the River Kwai where we walked over the famous
Bridge. We also visited the Allied Forces Cemetery and the Thai
Burma Railway Museum before crossing the bridge by train for our
journey to our lunch stop by the bridge known as ‘The Pack of Cards.’
The next day our journey took us to the Hellfire Pass Memorial,
part of the Death Railway where many Prisoners of war perished
during its construction. After walking on the remains of the original
