stages. The route took us through some of Mont Blanc’s premiere ski locations with SSgt Fish
Roche taking it literally by sliding down the side of the mountain. The yellow jersey was given to
Capt Steve “Speedy” Fisher for his rapid decent on the road stages from St Gervais, although
it’s rumoured he used his connections in the rail industry to cadge a free lift back to camp.
The kayaking was run by SSgt Jim “Le Beef” Lewis on lake Le Paessy. This was considered a
relaxed day’s break from all the walking and somewhere the guys could get down to some
Eskimo rolls and ball games - with an opportunity to sunbathe and have a swim.
The final day was planned as a free day where teams could choose the activity they wanted to
carry out - with the addition of the opportunity to do some rock climbing, again instructed by
SSgt Pete Coates. The week’s adventurous training culminated with a gathering in the park
next to the rockface, where the admin team, lead by WO1 Andy Wicks, ably assisted by
SSgt Stu Humphries, cooked up a blinding barbeque.
Much enjoyment was had by all. The team would like to thank the Berlin Infantry Brigade
Memorial Trust Fund, HQ 5 Div, 49 (East) Brigade, the RE Corps Treasurer and the Blythe
Sappers for their help with funding the event.
