As if this was not excitement enough, the
River Monnow then burst its banks and the
HLS was cut off. An alternative HLS was
quickly identified at Haberdashers School
and HRH was whisked off back to
Kensington Palace.
At the end of a very wet and busy day the
rain finally stopped, just in time for the
Regimental Cocktail Party and Beating the
Retreat. Amongst a full house of spectators
were some distinguished guests including;
GOC 5 Div, who took the salute,
General Sir Michael Wilkes KCB
CBE, Honorary Colonel Jersey
Field Squadron (Militia), the
EinC(A) and the Chairman of
Brains Brewery, who was
extremely popular!
