Katherine Govett is leading a group of young mums in
from their weekly health walk round Bradbourne lakes.
They are all a bit red in the face but getting their breath
back. The toddlers run off and play, the babies sleep on
in their buggies while Katherine gets out the scales and
asks if anyone wants to be weighed and look over their
food diary.
Then she gets out her fitness mats and runs through
some exercises with the group, to a chorus of protest. “I
can’t get my leg up there,” says one young mum before
her three-year-old runs a buggy over the mat and lies
down beside her.
Katherine just laughs. “This is what it’s like at home.
Get her to join in.” Mother and daughter lie, side by
side, with their legs in the air smiling at each other.
Katherine is a member of Get Sorted, a team of fitness
trainers and nutritionists paid for jointly by NHS West
Kent, Sevenoaks District Council and Sencio, the
commercial company that runs the district’s leisure
centres.
“Our job is to help people make healthier choices,”
she tells Vine. She has been working in Sevenoaks district
for five years now, first funded by Lottery money and for
