Throughout history, excuses have been made for the
exploitation of both people and animals. These excuses have
always emanated from the same sources – the rich, powerful
and influential, the very people who stand to gain most by
such exploitation. They have ranged from the ludicrous to the
obscene, from ‘fish don’t feel pain’ to ‘black people are not
human beings’.
Sadly, the litany of justification continues and so does the
exploitation. This guide delves into history and examines the
present to show how keeping consumers consuming is far more
important than any concept of justice or rights. The outcome is
that justice is still being denied to the most vulnerable
inhabitants of our planet.
