outh Shields Museum & Art Gallery is
launching an appeal to the people of Tyne
and Wear to show their collections in an
exhibition this summer.
The exhibition, entitled Gotta Have It! You and
Your Collections, will explore the hobby of
collecting and feature collections and collectors
from across the region. Brenda Donaldson,
Mayoress of South Tyneside, is encouraging
fellow collectors to come forward and be a part
of the exhibition.
Mrs Donaldson began collecting powder compacts
12 years ago and now has almost 700 in her home in
South Shields.
Mrs. Donaldson says: “I’m delighted to have the
opportunity to share my powder compacts with
visitors to South Shields Museum and can’t wait to see
what other collections people in Tyne and Wear bring
forward.”
Alisdair Wilson, manager for South Tyneside Museums,
says: “From china dolls to holiday souvenirs, most
people have at least the beginnings of a collection

at home. We’re certainly not just looking for stamps
and coins – football stickers and model frogs will be
equally welcome!”
