San Diego Lesbian Gay Bisexual
The San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender Pride
Transgender community has many reasons to
experience a feeling of Pride. In the earliest

marches in the 1970s, many participants

marched with paper bags concealing their

hundreds of thousands of people turn out each

year to watch the annual parade in Hillcrest. Far

Yet there is still a great deal to be done before
Back row left to right:
equality becomes a reality. Many LGBT people

so from the closet. Closer to home, thousands of
LGBT couples had their marriage rights taken
away from them when the Prop 8 initiative was
passed. The fight for equality continues to be a
struggle, but in the words of President Kennedy,
“We choose to do these things, not because they
are easy, but because they are hard.”
