Little Boots
Make a big
impression in
Inverness
The advent of Little Boots has
signalled something of a collective
epiphany. Sometimes you don’t know
what’s been missing from your life
until it’s right there in the room with
you; and then you wonder how you
ever managed without it.
I
t’s been barely a year since her solo project began, but already 24
year old Victoria Hesketh is UK pop music’s most talked about
new star. Ticking off every major piece of ‘next big thing’ feature
press without even a properly released single to her name, she’s a
rare instance of completely justified industry and public hysteria.
Beginning with her much-hyped series of bedroom YouTube
cover versions and the inundation of remixes, each flawlessly
sculpted gem – aided by hand-picked helpers including Joe
Goddard (Hot Chip) and Greg Kurstin (Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen) –
is a universe of imagination.
“What started as a ridiculous joke on a night in with a friend,
filming video cover versions of Girls Aloud and uploading them
online, went further than we could ever have imagined,” says an
amazed Victoria. Soon the videos were found by fans of the artists
she had covered and passed along through blogs and e-mailed
around as virals, eventually ending up on the front page of YouTube
and racking up more than 250,000 views. One viewer was Jules
Holland’s producer, who invited her to play on the show last
November. “Not bad going for a girl with a webcam in her mum’s
garage in Blackpool,” stated Victoria.
