Scott Steel also owns its own fleet of manlifts, scissor
lifts, telehandlers, compressors, and welders.
The company’s current and past projects have taken
Scott Steel all the way to Nunavut, to Fort McMuray, to
British Columbia and to the Carribean. The challenge for
the company now is to expand into erecting larger, more
complex buildings.
“With each project we take on we expand our knowl-
edge and expertise and can move into more diverse proj-
ects” Scott said.
The current challenge for the growing company is not
so much the depressed economy – it’s only a matter of time
until the industry begins its journey back to health. “All the
engineering firms I work with are busy and that’s good
news for the industry,” Scott added. “It means there are
projects coming up.” The real challenge is finding enough
suitable work.
“There are a lot of small jobs that we could tackle,” he
said. “But our strength is our ability to work on unique,
complex projects and in remote areas. Most other metal
building erectors don’t have our equipment and extensive
experience in those fields.”
The next few years will see the company continue its
path of growth. Scott wants to add more to his core team so
they’ll be ready when the economic turnaround does come,
and to carve out a new niche with larger and more chal-
lenging projects.
