Scott Steel Erectors
Continued from page A10

The primary goal of any Scott Steel
project is proper installation, something
Scott found lacking in the industry when he
decided to start his own company. This is
accomplished through using established
procedures, making sure employees are
well-trained and extensive quality control.
And projects need to come in on time
and on budget, something that doesn’t hap-
pen a lot in the industrial and commercial
construction sector. By working closely
with the general contractor and sub-trades,
Scott Steel’s balanced approach means
each job is properly planned and executed.
Similar to a lot of entrepreneurs, Scott
first operated out of his house. In 2004 he
bought a building in Burlington, Ontario
and built an addition to it in 2006. The head
office is located there with an additional
equipment yard located in St. Catharines
Scott Steel is an open shop but as Scott
maintains, they can work at the capacity of
any union. Some provinces allow a metal
building trade designation and he believes
this would be beneficial to project owners
and all erectors in other provinces, as well.
Scott believes that there is room for devel-
opment and cross-provincial labour regula-
tions, such as the metal building trade
designation that is used in Alberta.”
Scott also credits his staff for helping
him create a successful business and he’s
very committed to them, making sure they
work safely and efficiently; some have
been with him for more than 18 years.
“We’re only as good as our staff, from my
administrator right down to the erector who
puts in the last rivet,” he said. “By sur-
rounding myself with the right people, I’ve
continued to grow and have built a solid
reputation in the industry.”
The company’s extensive range of services
includes:
• Conventional structural steel erection
• Pre-engineered building erection
• Commercial wall and roof cladding in-
stallation
• Overhead crane and runway erection
