Covance opens
OPEN FOR BUSINESS: Covance Laboratory, one of the
world’s largest and most comprehensive drug development
services, is now open at the Chandler Airpark. Ribbon-cutting
ceremonies gathered company and city offi cials, including from
left, Chandler Vice Mayor Bob Caccamo, Arizona Secretary
of State Ken Bennett, Covance Vice President and General
Manager Monique Heiser-Wong, Covance COO Wendel Barr,
Chandler Mayor Boyd Dunn and Covance CEO Joe Herring.
The 288,000-square-foot facility sits on 77 acres at the east
end of Chandler Municipal Airport and cost $175 million to
build. The lab currently employs 60 who work in fi ve different
labs performing drug safety evaluations and testing for major
pharmaceutical companies worldwide. The new research and
testing facility is being hailed as the beginning of a bio-tech
interest in Arizona. Covance recently opened three other clinical
development offi ces in Kiev, Ukraine; Bratislava, Slovakia;
and Tel Aviv, Israel to “further enhance the company’s global
presence,” according to
