Summer is finally here
Can you feel it?
The most anticipated season of the year is finally here. Hot days.
Longer nights. Family reunions. Backyard barbeques. Picnics in
the park. Festivals.
There’s just nothing like the magic of summer, and we here at
Trends want you to make good use of every sizzling moment.
Since our last issue, we’ve been brainstorming in overdrive, try-
ing to find ways to better serve the interests of the “grown and
sexy” locals of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. So, in addition to
travel, this issue is packed with summer fun and lots to do, start-
ing with the African American Heritage Festival. This Baltimore
event draws a crowd of over a half-million people from all corners
of the nation, serving up a premier showcase of African-American
culture. In this issue you will find the official guide for all the
happenings of this event, including performances from Baltimore’s
own Fertile Ground, Fantasia, and Kindred to name a few.
Also in this issue, D.C.-based writer Marcus Williams has given
you a rundown of all the hottest clubs in the District. But if the club scene is not for you, Kristin Gray gives a
rave review of Lucky Strikes, the new sports bar/ bowling alley in the District. Wherever you go, though, there
are two things that have to be in top-notch condition: Your style and your car. So Tyra Williams gives some
pointers on what’s in and where to shop in “Summer Style” and Kevin Morris gives the scoop on the hottest car
customizations in “Throw Some Ds On It.”
Now there’s something about the summer time that adds a little spice to relationships. And whether you’ve got
a longtime lover or just looking for some one to kick it with for sporadic getaways or walks in the park, I went to
sex and relationship expert Ladawn Black to see what she had to say on the whole “Summer Fling” thing.
After all is said and done, summer time is the best time—other than Christmas and Thanksgiving—to get the
family together just to spend some quality time. And why not have some fun and stay fit too? In “Fun, Sun and
Sports,” Perry Green highlights Baltimore sports leagues that are sure to get the whole family involved, trimming
down a little of Dad’s “beer belly” and some of Mom’s “baby fat.”
But this is only the tip of the iceberg of what Trends has to offer this issue. There’s so much more, but it’s
about time for you to turn the page.
Until next time, be safe, get tanned, have fun.
The sun is waiting…
