EXOTIC BEACH BLISS
By Donna Owens
ou may not have the bank account of your fave celeb-
Y
rity, but who says you can’t travel in style like the
beautiful people? Exotic beach getaways offer travel-
ers a taste of the good life, if only for a few blissful
days and nights.
While these jaunts don’t exactly come cheap, many destina-
tions in the Caribbean and beyond, offer package deals and spe-
cial seasonal offers, that just may put these trips within reach.
Meanwhile, we’d like to whisk you away in spirit. Read on
as we explore four gorgeous and glam getaways, ranging from
a spot in Mexico that has everyone buzzing, to the sensual
seductions of the French West Indies.
St. Martin, French West Indies
La Samanna Hotel
The lovely island of St. Martin evokes a French spirit with
a Caribbean soul. And nowhere is that more pronounced than
at La Samanna, an elegant hotel overlooking Baie Longue--a
crescent-shaped, pristine, golden sand beach.
Situated on 55 acres of breathtaking beachfront, La
Samanna’s guest rooms offer views of crystal clear waters, and
a world where there’s year-round sunshine. And as the only
hotel on the mile-long Baie Longue beach, there is a private
island feel -- with un-crowded stretches of sand, sea and pri-
vacy.
Everything is done to ensure your comfort: cold towels, iced
bottles of water, fruit kebabs and fresh sorbet appear almost
magically at regular intervals by pleasant beach attendants.
Private cabanas are also available for rental on the beach,
complete with iPods, a misting system and fans, champagne or

wine, plus butler-style service.
For active guests, La Samanna has a water sports cabana on
the beach. It offers a wealth of activities, from scuba diving and
kayaking, to water skiing and deep sea fishing. You can even
charter the hotel’s 38-foot powerboat to discover the coastline
of St. Martin, or go exploring with a snorkel next to the rising
cliff bordering the property.
The only hotel in the area, the resort is still just a short drive
from the exclusive shops of Marigot in town, and the gourmet
restaurants (more than a hundred) of Grand Case.
