On 16 May the Hall welcomes Lau (left), the formidable union of three of
the finest and most innovative exponents of modern traditional music in
Scotland today (Kris Drever, Marlin Green and Aidan O’Rourke). Lau were

voted Best Group in the Folk Awards. ‘When we announced the current
programme, last December, we described it as our best ever,’ commented
David Hall Manager, Andrea MacLaughlan. ‘The fact that so many of our
artists either won awards, or were nominees, in this year’s BBC Folk
Awards highlights the fact that The David Hall attracts the leading names
in the folk, blues and acoustic music sectors.’ SeeFolkListingspage28.

instrument movement since the early 1970s. His
performances and recordings of Haydn, Mozart,
Beethoven and Schubert on late 18th and early
19th-century pianos have contributed significantly
to the revival of the fortepiano on the modern
concert stage. He will perform Mozart’s Piano
Concerto K.466 as part of a programme of Mozart
and Bach with OrchestraWest in Taunton on Sunday
19 April, and a chamber recital of music by Haydn,
Mozart, Dussek and Beethoven on Friday 24
April at Cossington. Julie Sadie, Artistic Director of
Cossington Concerts says, ‘By joining together we
are able to present the two faces of the fortepiano,
public and private, and offer two different audience
experiences, concert hall and salon. Professor
Bilson is very highly regarded internationally and
his visit represents a considerable coup, and a
remarkable opportunity for the people of Somerset.’
OrchestraWest’s Patron, conductor and broadcaster
Charles Hazlewood, adds ‘Malcolm Bilson
recordings of the Mozart Piano Concertos with
John Eliot Gardiner are amongst my absolute
Desert Island discs. He is an amazing musician.’

CIRQUEDEGLACE
A new genre of ice show, guaranteed to stimulate, dazzle and thrill all
ages comes to the Octagon in Yeovil at the end of May. The critically
acclaimed Russian Ice Stars combine with the magical world of cirque
in an eclectic mix of spectacle and ice dance which promises to be both
heart stopping and jaw dropping. Cirque de Glace brings to life the story
of the creation of our planet, man’s evolution and his journey to the limits
of technology and beyond. The Russian Ice Stars, who are the major
performers, are all highly skilled skaters. But their real skill is combining
the technical side of their skating with the beautifully choreographed dance
movements which create the real lasting images of the show. And although
the skating provides the bulk of the performance, there are stunning circus
style sequences from other artists. ‘It’seasytorunoutofsuperlatives
