Receiving Email
If you want to make the best use of email, make sure to check regularly
for incoming mail and reply as soon as possible. The benefit of email
is its ease of use in sending, receiving AND replying promptly. Some
years ago, I was surprised by one gentleman who said he checked his
email once a year!
Another reason for checking regularly is because you will receive junk
mail, just as you do in your snail mail box. If your box gets full and then
Aunt Maud sends you a generous offer, her mail will be returned to her
as undeliverable - and you will not know that she ever sent it! [See the

To check if there is any new mail, you have to login to your email
software with your account. To do that, you open the software, your
Username will automatically come up and your password may be
requested. After you type in your password, if required, your email
program will connect to your mailbox at your ISP to see if there is any
mail waiting for you.
If there is, it will download the messages to your computer and tell you
that you have new mail. You click on OK, and then just click on the new
messages that you have to open them. You can tell they are new by the
unopened markers next to them.
The bullet means I havenʼt yet read that message, the arrow means I
have replied to Denis, and clicking on the arrow would bring up my reply.
I havenʼt replied to Victoria yet, although I have read her message; as
we tend to correspond once every 6 months or so, I have left it in my
