Junior High
AGE 11 - 14 nominees
Jessica Wisnowski
Jessica is a Grade 9 student at McCoy High School. The reason Jessica is deserving of this award is a simple,
yet important reason. She was born two months premature and weighed just two lbs as she struggled to
survive. This first, most important fight of her life set the stage for how she handles the obstacles that are
thrown at her now. With all of the pressures and worries that teenagers face these days - drugs, under-age
sex, alcohol, bullying - it is so easy to fall prey to the evils of the world especially when trying to fit in with
others. Jessica is only 14 - in the midst of trying to define herself - yet, she does not cave in to peer pressure
nor does she care how others perceive her. What you see is what you get and she will not change to please
anyone. This is the kind of attitude and mentor that teens should have. She is also outspoken against the
use of drugs and impaired driving. She would go to the ends of the earth and back for her friends and family
without a second thought. No, Jessica hasn't started a petition to save the world nor has she volunteered
hours and hours of her time for big charities....but I believe the little things she does throughout her daily
life will change at least one person's perspective and show them the path to a better future. This young
woman is definitely a leader of tomorrow.
Chelsey Grant
I would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment that Chelsey Grant has made to my
kindergarten class and Crestwood School. For the past few years Chelsey has been a part of Crestwood
School’s Student Council, safety patrollers and choir. Last year, Chelsey became a huge part of my
kindergarten program. Her commitment, energy and enthusiasm have made her a dependable helper.
Each day she spends half of her lunch hour in my class reading to the children, working with them
one on one, helping with art projects, organizing and helping with whatever tasks need to be done.
She is a very self-motivated young lady that needs little direction
and knows exactly what needs to be done. Chelsey is a self starter
