The GTA Construction Report – March 2009 – PAGE B1
Leadership through service
Brouwer Construction puts clients and community first
GINA MONACO – The GTA Construction Report Special Feature
The construction environment is rich with challenges and opportunities.
The challenges come in many forms, including governmental require-
ments, time constraints, weather, and increasingly complicated designs
and building systems. Brouwer Construction (1981) Ltd., based in St.
Catharines, has earned an excellent reputation as a contractor that accepts
these challenges and considers it a privilege to serve the community.
Established in 1981, the construction company is family-owned and
operated. The day-to-day management is in the hands of Albert Brouwer,
who has more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry,
and Ron Brouwer. Both are graduates of the Construction Engineering
Technician Program at Mohawk College.
“Serving the community is a privilege we take very seriously,” Al
Brouwer said. “With it comes responsibility and it’s here where we be-
lieve we stand above the crowd. Our reputation speaks volumes about our
dedication to quality, our attention to detail, our respect for the needs of
our clients and our circumspect post-completion and warranty work.
Brouwer Construction strives to maintain a team atmosphere where the
respective staff and sub-trades work together to provide a finished prod-
uct they all can be proud of. Currently the company employs an office
manager, two project and cost expediters, five senior superintendents and
several general labourers.
“Together we are confident of our abilities to perform well in the con-
struction work place.”
Brouwer Construction has grown over the past 25 years from sales of
$200,000 to sales in excess of $26,000,000. Over those years the Brouwer
team has gained experience in many different facets of construction in-
cluding schools, apartment buildings, townhouses, nursing homes,
churches, commercial space and pre-engineered steel buildings.
The approach to all of its projects, whether Stipulated Sum, Construc-
tion / Project Management, or Design Build contracts can be summed up
in a few simple words: Fairness, Honesty, Integrity and Respect. These
four hallmarks, so often missing in today’s marketplace, are integral to
how the company operates.
“We encourage and expect reciprocity by all parties involved in our
various construction projects.”
Brouwer is consistent in its ability to meet construction schedules.
Their record for completing jobs on time is good and projects with tight
schedules have been completed on time and in some cases completed
early.
A recent project for Brouwer Construction was the multi-million dol-
lar expansion of the Technology Skills Centre at Niagara College’s Glen-
dale Campus. The 70,000 square foot expansion at the College created 730
new spaces for apprenticeships and skills training and supports trades such
as welding, metal fabrication, construction, carpentry, cabinetmaker and
electrician.
Congratulations to Brouwer Construction.
We are proud to be part of your team.
