TAKING MOSAIC
TO EXTREMES
Mosaic tiles are usually thought of as a practical and decorative
addition to kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces. Mostly
applied as wall surfacing or flooring, the mosaic tile is actually far
more versatile than one would expect. Italian company Sicis has
demonstrated this with its Icon Collection.
Inspired by the art of decorating and embellishing the body in
extreme ways, Sicis have extended their creative reach beyond expected
surfaces and have used mosaic tile to decorate unusual objects.
The Icon Collection includes the Sculpture Collection, Artistic
Mannequins, the Tip Toe Lamp Collection, the Doggy Collection and
the Feline Collection.

WASTE NOT WANT NOT
At the end of last year Philips launched its Green Cuisine concept in an attempt to promote
healthier lifestyles and a greener cooking experience. Green Cuisine comprises several
domestic products that work together with the Interactive Kitchen Table as the centrepiece,
the Table operating both as a dinner table and cooking top.
The Smart Kettle meanwhile works by sliding cups towards it. The device automatically
detects the number of cups and boils only the amount of water needed. There is also a Smart
Tap which reduces water wastage. The temperature is selected through a touch-sensitive
water controller – by placing a finger on the controller the temperature can be felt through
its material before running the tap.
Green Cuisine also features the Bokashi Composter, which is docked under the table.
Waste is dropped into a grinder built into the table top. Within two weeks the composting
process converts the waste into soil tablets which can be placed in the garden.
