FLAT HOLM ISLAND
Starting this month until October, the idyllic island of Flat Holm will once
again be open to the public. The tiny isle just fi ve miles off Cardiff’s shores
will play host to tourists, educational trips and nature enthusiasts alike;
offering everything from guided tours to workshops and overnight stays.
Visitors can retrace Viking footsteps and explore the Victorian gun pits or
simply enjoy the coastal views. Access to the island is available via regular

event, sweeping craze Style Swap returns to Park Plaza,
Cardiff on Thursday 12 March. This innovative event
– which is supporting The George Thomas Hospice – sees
guests bring along their unwanted (but good quality)
clothes and literally swap them for another’s discarded
threads. Even Trinny & Susannah have done it. Tickets
are £10, which can be redeemed as a voucher against

LIAR LIAR
If you’ve ever been known to tell a tall tale or two, here’s a great excuse to reel off another porky pie
– and not even feel guilty! This spring sees Pontardawe Arts Centre host a fresh new Festival of Stories
(Mon 23 March-Thurs 2 April), designed to revive the art of storytelling through live events of music,
theatre and even a medieval banquet accompanied by poetry reading and song. Amid the literature,
you can also try to April-fool a panel of three distinguished judges in the Lying Contest on Weds 1 April.
If you can convincingly carry off an absurd lie for up to seven minutes, you might just be the ideal
candidate.
