nown for its intricate four-
part vocal interplay and
storytelling songs, Country
music band Little Big Town has seen its share
of setbacks and opening-band-act gigs. But
today, superstardom is on the map for the
close-knit foursome who refused to give
up on their musical sense of destiny. This
month, UTS talked with band members
Jimi Westbrook, Karen Fairchild, Phillip
Sweet and Kimberly Roads Schlapman
about LBT’S genre-bending Country-rock-
pop-folk music, sticking together through
the tough times, and how sweet it is for the
ten-year-old band to be headlining its first
national tour this year.
Under The SUn: LBT’s music has been
compared to everyone from The Mamas
and the Papas to Fleetwood Mac to the
Dixie Chicks to The Eagles. With all those
influences, how do you keep your own
organic sound?

essential part. We’ve been a band for over
ten years...we started writing together as a
