“People think they have to
travel a long way to
experience something
different,” said Michael
Amery, who owns the inn.
“It’s tough to believe this is
Bucks County. You do not
have to go to Center City
or New York. You can
actually experience a
romantic escape right on
your doorstep.”
The magic begins in the driveway. The gate slowly opens, like a ribbon slipping from an enormous and coveted gift.
Revealed are a gathering of stone buildings nestled among the trees. Landscaped gardens surround the property –
cushioning it in a blanket of natural beauty and utter privacy. Is that a carriage house to the left? A fountain in the
courtyard? As this scene unfolds, you may begin to wonder if you’ve arrived in the English countryside. Yet this
enchanted place actually requires a GPS rather than a passport. Welcome to New Hope. Welcome to The Inn at
Bowman’s Hill.
The original home here was built in 1979, although from its authentic historic design it looks like it could have
stood in this spot since 1779. Amery has lived here for 11 years and said it took him two years to transform his home
into an elite vacation property. It now includes two suites, four guest rooms, a conservatory, breakfast room, vine-
covered terrace, heated outdoor pool, koi pond and outdoor hot tub. The Inn at Bowman’s Hill just opened in 2005
and is already receiving accolades. In Pennsylvania, it is the only recipient of AAA’s exclusive Four Diamond Award
outside of Philadelphia. In 2006, it was named one of the top 10 romantic inns in the nation by American
Historic Inns, which publishes bed & breakfast guide books.
Now, if the words “bed & breakfast” send your eyes rolling as you imagine dusty Victorian antiques, shared
bathrooms and breakfasts where you’re forced to dine with unwanted neighbors, think again. This inn more
resembles a tiny, boutique hotel. The breakfast room, which features an enormous fireplace for cozy winter
mornings, has only tables for two. Breakfast options change every day and always offer three or four choices,
including the option of breakfast in bed. Secluded areas are built in to the property in the small sitting rooms,

outdoor terraces and the five acres of landscaped property, which offer rolling lawns in summer, flowering

blooms in spring, vibrant leaves in fall, and darkly silhouetted trees in winter.

In-room, couples massages can be requested, as well as a romance package, which includes giant, hand-dipped,
