It’s a cold winter’s
night and you can’t
wait to jump into a
long, steaming hot
shower and then
cuddle up in front
of a roaring fireplace
Not so, for your skin —- that is, according to
Joanne Mock, a clinical esthetician at Beans
Beauty and Salon in Doylestown. “It’s all about
hydration. Your skin is probably already slightly
with a glass of wine.
dehydrated in winter and all of those things can
really contribute to the condition of dehydration,
leading to dry skin,” says Joanne.
Winter itch and dull, dry skin can be a problem
for most of us during this time of year. The
combination of less humidity in the air and
spending more time indoors with the heat running
all hours can wreak havoc on our skin. What
can we do to help beat winter itch and have
healthier, younger looking skin if packing up
and heading south for the winter isn’t an option?
Keep these tips in mind for winter skin survival
and think spring!
Cool It
Hot water, and too much time in it, can strip skin
of its protective layer of oil, causing it to become
dry. Then, as the water evaporates from the skin,
it pulls more valuable moisture from the epidermis
with it. Short (10-15 minute) amounts of time in
the shower or bath using cool or lukewarm water
are better for combating dry skin.
