DOODLE DAY
Picture this: you’re in a tedious meeting that has overrun because this man, who calls him-
self the boss, will not quit. Glancing at your notebook, you find that someone has scribbled
all over it. How very dare they? Fluffy clouds and hearts encompassing the name of your
new beau now sprawl across your pad. Ah, the doodle.

Fri 27 Feb is National Doodle Day. Organised by Epilepsy Action and The Neurofibromatosis
Association, its aim is to raise awareness and money for people affected by epilepsy and
neurofibromatosis. Since 2004, they have raised £120,000 by encouraging celebrities ranging
from Alesha Dixon to Alan Titchmarsh, and 748 others to doodle, and then auctioning their
scribbles on eBay. Help out by visiting www.nationaldoodleday.org.uk and enter, vote, bid or
buy. Plus, the website is packed with loads of facts about doodling. Note, chaotic doodling
is allegedly a sign of mental disturbance (well, just take a look at Michael Barrymore’s).
LIVES NOT KNIVES
The Wales Music Group and The Big Red Caravan PR Company
are spearheading new anti-knife crime campaign, ‘The Knife Crime
Awareness Tour’. The initiative is being backed by local government
bodies, police forces and the celebrated Damilola Taylor trust, and
the aim of the plan is to publicise the need to reduce violent crime
via the medium of music and performing arts. The campaign’s live
launch will take place on Mon 23 Feb at the Welsh Assembly building
(5pm-7.30pm). They then intend on arranging a number of South
Wales club gigs, featuring local unsigned bands and fully-established
acts, with the number and size of the shows increasing as the year
goes on. If you want to support the campaign, head over to www.
