The new PCV Easy Read Cell Counting System provides
a quicker, less tedious alternative to counting cells than
NEW!
using a microscope and hemacytometer. Users simply
load a sample of cell suspension into the PCV Tube, spin
for 1 minute in a microcentrifuge to pellet the cells into
the capillary at the bottom of the tube, and then accurately
determine the cell pellet volume by eye or with the “Easy
Read” measuring device. The cell pellet volume can then
be utilized in conjunction with pre-determined conversion
factors to quickly calculate cell number, protein production,
or metabolic activity.

“I am very happy with the convenience and accuracy of the PCV tubes. We did a number of cell
counting experiments comparing results using PCV tubes, the hemacytometer, and the coulter counter.
We consistently had an underestimation of cell counts using the coulter counter, presumably due to
cell clumping. The hemacytometer in our hands is time-consuming and gives an occasional low value,
requiring several replicates for confi dence. We found the the PCV tube to be the fastest and easiest
of the three techniques. Just recently, I seeded a number of MCF-7-derived cell lines for subsequent
assay, and the next day, every cell line was seeded equally.”
