Very important for any dinner party, no matter
what time of year, is the wine. Give your
table height with some elegant white and
red wine glasses, like these from the Vivian

short water glasses, you don’t want your guests
falling asleep after all the great food and one
too many. For something a little different, these

will be a deﬁ nite talking point. Choose a great
wine bucket to show off your white wine; keep
it cool and have it on the table so you can easily
help guests to more. Always decant red wine
beforehand to let it truly develop its ﬂ avour. This

Give a nod to childhood memories with
crackers. Try these (above right, M&S) for
elegance, fun and great prizes, including
digital cameras and mp3 players; after
all Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas
without the terrible jokes. Simply set at
each place or pile high in the middle for
a simple but effective centrepiece. If
you want something different, instead
of crackers give each of your guests a
snowy treat (above left, Villeroy & Boch,

boxes to take home and hang on the tree.
Classic red and white schemes with
touches of green and naturals are always
a success if you’re a fan of the nostalgic
Nordic look. Use a bold red tablecloth and lay
each place setting with white plates and crystal
