g life to the full?
The years between 50 and 65 can contain many life changing events –
good and bad. Challenges might include a fall in income, bereavement,
a lack of car ownership, health conditions and social care needs. But
opportunities may arise including retirement, children leaving home,
having more time on your hands or having grandchildren in your life.
Councillor Pat Lewis, Older People’s Champion said: “Older people already
make an important contribution to life in the town. But with an ageing
population, it has become even more important that local services adapt to
meet the varied needs of our older communities.”
Councillor Barry Goldbart, Cabinet Member for Adult Services adds: “We have
a role to play ensuring older people can live independently and actively, with
a good quality of life and for as long as possible. So we’ve embarked on
Some useful contacts
promoting Bournemouth as an age friendly town, encouraging as many people

as possible to live life to the full.”

The Pilates fan
“I’ve been doing Pilates for the last four years, it’s great for the
mind and body,” says Pat who was born in Bournemouth. As well as aerobics
and going skiing twice a year, Pat is also a member of a local running group.
“We run a range of distances out in the countryside and usually start from a
pub so we can return there for lunch. Apart from the exercise it’s a great
social activity and I’ve made many friends through the group.”
