LACHLAN NAIDOC PUBLIC SPEAKING CHALLENGE
The second NAIDOC Public Speaking Challenge which was sponsored by the Lachlan Catchment Management Authority took place in Forbes on last Tuesday.
Primary schools from across the Lachlan region entered teams
of students with each team
consisting of an indigenous and a non-indigenous student. The topic for the day was “The History of the Tent Embassy”.
Cowra Public School entered two teams. Jemma Pokoney and Jaylee Dunn presented extremely well and were awarded first place. Our second team consisted of Bayley Webster and Janama Lambshead. Bayley and Janama did an excellent speech and were very unlucky not to come in second, losing to St Lawrences’ of Forbes by just one point.
Jemma and Jaylee will now compete again at Dubbo in Term 4. The girls have won a shield which will be displayed at the school for the next year, a trophy for the school to retain and an ipad.
All students worked extremely hard to prepare for this event and were excellent advocates for Cowra Public School on the day.
The group would like to thank Mrs Garling who accompanied them to Forbes and Mrs Day for coaching them,
assisting
speeches and getting them ready for the competition.
Congratulations and well done, Jemma, Jaylee, Bayley and Janama.
