GOOOOD EVENNNNING... The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is appealing for more people to give blood, as supplies plummet to less than three days’ coverage. "We have just 2.2 days’ supply of all blood types” said Blood Service spokeswoman Kathy Bowlen. “We aim to have six days’ supply at all times, to ensure we have blood for patients who need it, so this is a real concern for us. “It’s been a difficult year for the blood supply, and with colds and flu now stopping regular donors coming in, we really need more help to build stocks now” Ms Bowlen said. The next mobile donor collection service in Canowindra will be Thursday 12 July at Morris Park from 9:10am-3:30pm. Jo Gaigals of The Phoenix is absolutely terri- fied of needles, has already made an appoint- ment and will be at the service donating at 9:30am and invites all other business owners and employees to do the same. A Club Red Group Blood Donation team has been started to keep a tally of how much blood our town can donate. Just visit

-red/join-group?group_id=4565 The Blood Service is calling on former donors, or anyone who has thought about becoming a donor, to make the commitment, and call us today on 13 14 95 to make an appointment. “One in three people will need blood in their lifetime, but only one in 30 Australians donate. Right now we are all relying on too few Australians to keep the blood supplies flowing. “We need to bolster blood stocks now, and we can’t do that without community support” she said. “We need people’s help” she said. Ms Bowlen said it was unclear why there had been a downturn in donations, but urged people to try this life-saving act. “Every blood donation saves three lives, and the life you save might be that of someone you love” she said. “Cancer patients, people undergoing surgery, pregnant women and unborn babies all require donated blood. There is no substitute for blood and it’s needed every day.” Most people are able to give blood if they: are fit, healthy and not suffering from a cold, flu or other illness at the time of donation or in the previous 7 days; are aged between 16-70 years; most people who weigh more than 45kg will be eligible to donate; drink up in the 24 hours before donation, especially in warm weather and have at least 3 good-sized glasses of water/juice in the 3 hours before donating; eat something in the 3 hours before donating; bring at least one form of photo identification ID. For further information, or to make an appointment, please call 13 14 95.

MORE SPACE FOR JASE Amy Platt and Jason Horton wish to thank the Belubula Butchery, Gaskill Greens, Canowindra Country Bake House and Lawrence's IGA for donating to their fundraising barbecue held on Saturday morning on Gaskill Street. Also a big thank you to Don Percival for helping, and Canowindra Lions Club for the use of the bar- becue. The total raised from both the barbecue and the 500 Club was just over $800, which is a great start to achieving their total of $36,000 for a Kia Carnival to be retro fitted for Jase's wheelchair, giving the family more freedom and job opportunities. Amy and Jase will be holding a raffle every second Friday, and all money raised is held by the Lions Club until their goal is reached and they can order the vehicle. Thanks to everyone who has supported them.
