Snippets... Thanks: to everyone who assisted with the celebrations of the commencement of the Canowindra Methodist Circuit. The dinner, service & concert were an outstanding success. Not only did we celebrate our past achieve- ments but we showed that we are a progressive community of faith that is being true to our mission statement: A Christ focussed Community of Faith that witnesses the Gospel. Jazz: the Jazz Afternoon Tea & performance held last Thursday was very successful raising over $300 for costumes & hall hire for the end of year concert. Thank you to all the parents, families & friends who showed their support & made the afternoon such a success. A huge thank you to Jackie & Geoff Yeo of Finns Store for donating the slices, which were very delicious & a big hit. Also, thanks to the Primary School for letting us use their facilities & to the senior dance group who helped out with selling the slices & drinks. Term 3 starts on Tuesday 17 & Thursday 19 July. Ali & Gabby wish you all a great break & will see you in a few weeks. New: you may have noticed a bit of a change with this week's issue of The Phoenix. What a way to celebrate three years of bringing you what's happening in & around Canowindra (under the current owner), & also 1 year from taking over the guardianship of the Canowindra Star building. Thank you to all of the wonderful businesses who have supported The Phoenix over these years, & you...the readers who have helped grow our paper, both in size & popularity. FITNESS PATH IS LOOKING HEALTHY Members of the Fitness Path working party and Canowindra Sports Trust recently met with Cabonne Council Director of Engineering, Rob Staples and local Councillor Anthony Durkin to discuss the Fitness Path project. Councillor Durkin is excited about the project and pleased with the support it is being given by Council. Clr Durkin announced, “Cabonne Council is finan- cially contributing to the project with $60,000 allocated in this year’s budget. The development application has been completed by Mr Staples department and we are ready to start looking at how we can best get this project moving forward.” Members of the Fitness Path working party are keen to manage the project as much as possible, using the skills and resources that are available locally.

Spokesperson for the working party Julie Middleton is thrilled with the injection of funds from Council, “We still have lots of fundraising ahead to reach our goal of around $200,000 to complete the overall project. However, this Council money and funds we have raised from grants and local events will allow us to start looking at commencing Phase 1 of the project, which is building the path”. She thanked the community for the ongoing support it is providing to the project, “I have only heard positive comments and lots of enthusiasm from people about the project and so many local individuals, clubs, groups and businesses have been supportive.” Fundraising continues with a major raffle; a progressive dinner hosted by Lodge Canowindra on 7 July; and a fabulous Ball and auction night being held Saturday 14 July. Tickets for the progressive dinner are only $45pp and available from Ian Guihot or Debbie Guihot at The Plague & I in Gaskill Street, and tickets for the Ball are available from the Newsagency or Bill Paul's Carpet Centre for $25pp. If you have booked a table for the ball, please pick up and pay for your tickets as soon as possible, as they will not be available at the door on the night.
